Amaze is a charity based in Brighton and Hove that offers information, advice and support to families of children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities.
Our seminar on the 11th November 2020 via Zoom is about Decision Making which includes topics around the Court of Protection, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Mental Capacity. The seminar will take place online via Zoom.
At this event, Philip Warford from Renaissance Legal will talk to parents and carers about what the future holds when their child reaches 18. The fundamental principle is that no one has the right to make decisions on behalf of a person when they become an adult. The reality of this is not so clear cut.
If a person lacks the ability to make a decision then their mental capacity is questioned, Philip will explain the principles around mental capacity and what families and carers need to consider.
Philip will then go on to explain about Powers of Attorney. The appointment of someone to make decisions on behalf of a person with a learning disability, what and how they can be used. As well as what the Court of Protection is, what they do, timescales and charges.
