On Wednesday 28 September, Philip is delivering a 1 hour webinar about decision making for a disabled or vulnerable person. He will talk about the key principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Powers of Attorney and the Court of Protection.

The fundamental principle of the Mental Capacity Act is that no one has the right to make decisions on behalf of a person when they turn 18. The reality of this is not so clear for a disabled or vulnerable person as they may be able to make certain day to day decisions, but struggle to understand other more complex decisions about their finances and welfare.

When a person is unable to make such decisions their mental capacity is questioned, Philip will explain the principles around mental capacity and what families and carers need to consider.

Philip will talk about Powers of Attorney and the legal appointment of another person to make decisions on behalf of an individual with a disability. Philip will also talk about the Court of Protection, who they are and what they do. Becoming a Deputy for a disabled or vulnerable person, the timescales and the costs.
